Grr.
So, in LiveJournal, under the "My Account Settings / Display" section, there is a selection you're supposed to make:
Adult Content : My journal contains [ no adult content / adult concepts / explicit adult content ]
Well, I discuss things related to drinking, politics, war, torture, revolutions, drugs, driving automobiles, the meat industry and other things that some people may not talk to their younger children about.
I figured this setting was so that livejournal could filter their content for people who configured their computer to be in "safe" mode when their kids surf.
Instead, I've just been informed by a friend that any time anyone who is not logged into LiveJournal tries to come here, they see this:
Of all the ridiculous things. For one, talk about an unnecessary barrier for most people. I just clicked a link from an email that was sent me due to a comment on a post and was confronted by this ridiculous page because I'm not in my normal browser today.
For another, its a fricking button that any kid can press, and I guarantee you, the average 3 - 13 year old is perfectly capable of clicking that "I am 14" button and will do so if they're curious to see what's behind it. For that matter, I'm betting that notices like this make the average kid curious what's behind it. I bet they're disappointed when they see talks about bike riding etiquette and political commentary. Poor Kids.
So, for the kids sake, I'm switching this web log to "No Adult Content" and if you don't want your kids contemplating whether or not the US tortures, supervise them when they're on the net.
